Best Cloning Machine – Buyer’s Guide

Cloning machines are a wonderful way to create replicas of your most loved and treasured plants. Cloning can be a difficult process and finding the best cloning machine for your needs can feel confusing and murky at best. We were dumbfounded at the sheer number of cloning machines currently available for sale.

Best Cloning Machine Buyer’s Guide

During our testing and researching process, we learned so much about plant cloning and cloning machines. As a result, we have created a helpful guide that will explain the ins and out of plant cloning. So, stick around as we discover which features are the most important to understand about cloning machines and what you don’t need to stress over. Let’s get started!

What is a Cloning Machine?

A cloning machine is a gardening tool that allows you to replicate your favorite crops and plants. The cloning machine may be square or round in shape. The cloner holds a pump, mixtures of nutrients, as well as spray nozzles. There will also be circular holes where you can place cuttings of the plant you wish to clone.

Depending on the cloning machine there may be a few cloning sites, or there could be many. After placing the cuttings in the cloning sites, they are treated to a highly oxygenated water mist thanks to the pump system and nutrients. You can still clone plants without the use of a hydroponic or aeroponic cloning machine, but it takes much, much longer. It also involves a much more intensive process that will require you to be more hands on since the environment can be more finicky when not regulated by a cloning machine.

Do I Really Need a Cloning Machine?

You may be wondering if a cloning machine is truly a smart and sound purchasing decision. As we mentioned, the use of a cloning machine will cut your replicating time down drastically, in most cases by at least half. You also will have a greater amount of freedom as you won’t need to hover over your clippings constantly checking both their environment and nutrients. Your cloning success rate will also soar with nearly 100 percent success for rooting as opposed to the traditional method with no cloning machine.

How to Use a Plant Cloning Machine

In order to purchase the best cloning machine for your needs it is beneficial to understand how they are used. Let’s take a closer look at how to use your plant cloning machine.

  • Cloning Machine Set Up: Always read through your cloning machine’s instruction manual since each manufacturer may have slightly different setup procedures. You will need to fill your cloning machine with water. You will also need to attach your pump and mister. Double check to ensure the misters are properly covering the entire surface area of your cloning machine’s lid. You can add in any nutrient mixes during this initial phase as well. You will need to use water that measures between 65 and 68 degrees Fahrenheit or 18 to 20 degrees Celsius in temperature.
  • Setting Your Cloning Environment Up: You need to keep the air in the plant cloner very humid. If the area is less than 60 percent humidity, you will either need to mist or utilize a humidity dome. For optimal results, aim to keep the temperature around 70 to 75 degrees Fahrenheit. You will need to keep an eye on the nutrient solution as well. It is simple to maintain the nutrient solution at around 68 degrees Fahrenheit or 20 degrees Celsius by making sure that your system’s pump does not overheat the reservoir.
  • Transplanting the Cuttings: After taking cuttings from the plant you wish to replicate, insert them into the neoprene discs that arrive with your plant cloning system. You will need to place around two inches of the stem under the neoprene disc. By doing so, you can be certain that the mister will hit enough of the cutting’s surface to be effective.
  • Caring for the Cuttings: At the start of the cloning process do not become worried if the cuttings look somewhat droopy. The cuttings must become acclimated to no longer having roots. If you get concerned that the cuttings look wilted, you can mist them with a foliar spray. In about two days you should start to see roots developing. The roots should be bright white, the classic sign of healthy roots. If the roots appear brown or greyish in hue, it could be a sign that the temperature is too warm. After approximately ten days, there should be secondary roots in development. Once you see secondary roots, you can transplant your cuttings.

Imperative Consideration is Buying the Best Cloning Machine for Your Needs

There are several important points to ponder when shopping for a plant cloning system. Let’s take a closer look at a few tips to assist you in purchasing the best version for you and your gardening needs.

Type of Cloning System

There are two basic types of plant cloning machines. The two different versions are Deep Water Culture and Ebb and Flow Systems. DWC machines are simple and straightforward to use. A Deep Water Culture machine would be great for individuals new to cloning plants.

Deep Water Culture have nutrients stored deep within tanks. The cuttings are placed inside of inserts and do not require the use of a pump. The tank is oxygenated so you will not need to worry about algae growth.

Ebb and Flow Systems rely on a more advanced method of plant cloning technology. This version works as a true hydroponic system. A pump is required as well as temperature control to ensure the process performs as it should. While this version is a bit more intensive, the results speak for themselves as growth time is significantly lessened.

How Many Sites

This specification is up to your personal preference and gardening needs. The number of sites will determine how many plant cuttings you can develop at one time. If you are just starting out a cloning system with fewer sites should be sufficient.

Bucket Size

The size of your cloning system’s bucket also has a direct effect on the number of plants you can grow in it. Having a cloning machine with a larger bucket will allow for a greater amount of space. The larger space makes transplanting the cuttings easier and more conveniently than smaller basket models.

Cloning plants is a wonderful way to ensure your garden is impressive and functional. The use of a cloning system removes the guesswork and allows you to replicate your best plants. While there are hundreds of plant cloning systems on the market keeping your specific needs in mind will make finding the best one as easy as can be.

We hope this article was helpful to you and answered any cloning system questions you have. We would love to hear from you! Drop us a quick line below with your favorite cloning tips and tricks.

Can say about Hydrofarm, that the hot-house does a great job of keeping the soil moist, so it is not necessary to water too often. The hothouse is somewhat fragile, but is sturdy enough.

In fact, the heat generated from the submersible pump’s motor seems to keep the water at 80° F in my case, but a 25-watt aquarium heater would be more than enough if you need a heater, or maybe sit it on a heat mat.

Agreed. This is by far the best Clone or you can buy! I tried to go cheap and get one of the 3 1/2 gallon bucket ones with the ghetto sprayers. It was just a huge waste of money water got everywhere little silicone things kept falling down into the water. Don’t waste your money on the ghetto ones. If you can’t afford one of these borrow some money from your friends family or some chick and get this one. You’ll be happy you did.
